Andrew Scheer announces his candidacy for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada

"I am very pleased to announce today that I am running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.

I have spent the summer talking to Canadians from coast to coast and I am very encouraged by the support I have received. Our members and our supporters want a Leader who has always promoted and supported our fundamental Conservative philosophies and can bring our positive message of optimism and prosperity to a broader audience.

Our party needs to remain true to the solid principles that have made our country the best in the world.

We also need to stay united and focused on the things that bring us together as a caucus and a movement.  I know I can unite all Conservatives on our path to victory in 2019. I am excited about this challenge and look forward to the work ahead.

I am thankful for all the support I have received from my colleagues in the House of Commons as well as in the Senate.

In the coming months, I will be unveiling my vision for a Conservative Party that is united, principled and ready to win.”
