Scheer: Russian money-laundering revelations proof Magnitsky Law needed now
Andrew Scheer, MP for Regina-Qu’Appelle and candidate for the Leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada said that today’s Russian money-laundering revelations proved that Canada needs to pass the Magnitsky Law.
“Canada needs to take tough action against organized crime and any corrupt Russian officials connected to laundering money in our country,” said Scheer. “Today’s revelations make it clear to everyone that money-laundering by Russian organized crime is a reality in Canada. We need to take tough action. The first step is to pass Senator Raynell Andreychuk’s bill S-226 Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act (Sergei Magnitsky Law).”
Canada must take the threats of Russian organized crime, corrupt officials and the illegal occupation of Ukraine seriously. I am worried that Stephane Dion’s “boy scout” approach to Putin is putting Canada at a disadvantage.
“I’m proud that I have been banned from Russia by Putin’s regime. Under my leadership Canada would always take a strong line against bullies on the world stage.”
