Statement by Andrew Scheer recognizing Lunar New Year

On this special occasion, I would like to send my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating the Lunar New Year in Canada and all around the world.

This joyful celebration is a perfect reminder of the many cultures and traditions that make us who we are as Canadians. Known as Chinese New Year, Seollal, or Tet, this holiday brings together families and friends in the spirit of hope for a prosperous new year.

It is also a time for reconciliation, an opportunity to exhibit warmth and friendliness to neighbours. Let us not forget about those less fortunate who need our compassion and assistance.

2017 marks the year of the rooster. This animal is said to represent honesty, intelligence, confidence, hard work and talent. These are important traits that can help guide us toward a happy and successful year ahead.

Once again, let me wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous Lunar New Year 2017. I look forward to joining you at the many community events that will be taking place in the coming weeks.
