Statement by Andrew Scheer recognizing Norouz
As families of Persian heritage across Canada gather around the Haft-Seen table today, I want to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to everyone observing the Persian New Year and the beginning of spring.
The New Year is a time to come together with relatives, friends and neighbours to celebrate the treasured beliefs and values we share such as family, community and hope for the future. This holiday also creates an opportunity to renew wishes of peace and goodwill that are especially important at a time of global change and uncertainty in many regions where Norouz is celebrated.
I would like to encourage everyone across our great country to use this time to reflect on the tremendous contributions that people of Persian heritage have made to Canada’s prosperity. Let us join forces to welcome the rebirth of life and to renew our commitment to building a safer and more peaceful global community.
I wish everyone celebrating around the world – from East Asia to the Persian Gulf region – a happy, healthy, safe, and prosperous Norouz.
Norouz Shaad Baad!
