Statement by Andrew Scheer recognizing the celebration of Christmas by Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics

On this holy night I extend my heartfelt greetings to Christians of the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches who are celebrating the great feast of the Nativity of Christ.

For thousands of people here in Canada, and many more around the world, Christmas is an opportunity to gather with friends and family to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, to reflect upon our blessings over the past year, and to be mindful of those who are less fortunate.

Christ’s birth was synonymous with humility, compassion, love, understanding and peace in the world. Let us focus on this message as we enter the new year of 2017.

I would like to wish you and your family a merry and blessed Christmas, and I hope the new year ahead is a happy, healthy and prosperous one for all.
